You are cordially invited to the opening on June 3rd of Cure Park, a contemporary health resort that will pitch its tents this summer from until July 16th among the trees of the Amsterdamse Bos. Centered around the Bostheater, Cure Park brings together over 30 artists, creatives and thinkers with audiences and care professionals in a multidimensional program, comprising installations, experiments, interventions, workshops, exercises, lectures, performances and films. Cure Park creates a place where we can develop new care techniques, for ourselves, each other and our environment.

Young Soul Rebels is a film about the life and experience of black communities in London at the end of the 70s. Against the background of a mysterious murder and the broadcasts of funk and soul pirate radio, the film uncovers the tensions of sexual, racial and class difference at that time. See trailer here.

Quinsy Gario is a performance poet, visual artist, public speaker and talk show host. Based in the Netherlands but from the Dutch Caribbean, his interests are transnational. In 2011 he became well known for his art work Zwarte Piet Is Racisme (Black Pete Is Racism) and in 2012 he launched the media initiative Roet In Het Eten.

The Motherhood Archives is a film essay by artist Irene Lusztig, that revolves around the history and practices of childbirth in western society since the twentieth century. Wear danceable clothes!

Instead of trying to process stimuli through the mind, process them through the body by movement, dance and exercises. Nadia Bekkers will guide us through a vibrant dance workshop based on the ideology of creating a space free of judgments from others and ourselves. The exercises are aimed at raising awareness about how we carry our body and about healthy alignments. Using a mixture of body-mindful practices, yoga, circus, theatre improvisation, theory, concept development and dance, combined with various types of music from hiphop to salsa, to soft electronic and house, this workshop will be a healing and energizing experience. Nadia Bekkers is a musician, performer, dj, dancer and choreographer.

Voor Baden werkt Cathalijne Smulders samen met mensen die als gevolg van hersenbeschadiging moeite hebben met taal, spraak of gebaren. Op een klein zandstrand nabij het Bostheater voeren sprekers met afasie of chorea athetose alledaagse handelingen uit. Hun woorden en handelingen worden vervormd door een verloren vermogen om te spreken en abrupte, ongecontroleerde bewegingen. De invloed van verstoorde spraak op de waarneming wordt versterkt doordat dansers en zangers van een improvisatiekoor interactie opbouwen met de sprekers. Langzaam maken woorden plaats voor klanken, en verschuift de nadruk naar meer lichamelijke, gevoelige en fragiele vormen van uitwisseling.

Goed je tanden poetsen én handen wassen! Dat zegt je moeder of vader vast heel vaak tegen je. Maar hoe zorg je eigenlijk goed voor jezelf? Kan je door te luisteren naar je lichaam, iets wat van binnen niet fijn voelt, oplossen? Tijdens de workshop maken we samen een speelse ontdekkingsreis. We leren met energie te werken en samen te luisteren naar wat ons lichaam ons wil vertellen. We reiken je een paar mooie werktuigen aan zoals een bruisbal voor in bad, of een potje madeliefjescrème zodat jij zelf voor je blauwe plekken kan zorgen.

Paul-Julien Robert, director of this documentary, traces the story of his own family as part of the Friedrichshof, the largest commune in Europe, founded by the Viennese Actionist Otto Mühl at the beginning of the 70s. As with many communal projects of the time, their ideals were to dissolve nuclear family, the sharing of all properties and free love. However, the aftermaths of this kind of community living seem to be quite opposite to their own original goals and principals. See trailer here.

We hebben vaak meegekregen dat seks iets is wat je doet met een partner of een geliefde. Dat het met geslachtsdelen te maken heeft en met ‘lekker’. Maar wat is dat gevoel? En hoe verhoudt het zich tot Reiki? Is het universele levensenergie? En is dat hetzelfde als seksuele energie?

Bij Love Space wordt een ruimte gecreëerd voor ervaring, verdieping en uitwisseling van liefde. Een plek om met elkaar een (seksuele) eenheidsstaat te ervaren, zonder elkaar hiervoor aan hoeven te raken. Een veilig spel met levensenergie, met lichaamsenergie. Zegt je hoofd: zomaar liefde delen met deze mensen zonder dat ik verliefd op ze ben? De middag maken we samen. Wat we nodig hebben is dat je durft, dat je je openstelt en dat je blijft voelen wat je wel en wat je niet wil. Meer uitleg volgt op de dag zelf.

Health, Welfare and Sports (VWS) that helps people in their search for better solutions. Zorg Verandert brings people together in ‘dialogue group meetings’ aimed at listening to each others concerns, needs and solutions. On 1 July Shana Moulton wil perform at Care Center. Shana Moulton’s performative work utilises video projections to create engaging surreal darkly comic intermedial theatrical performances. Using toys, lava lamps, commercial jingles, and live and active cultures, she attempts to harmonize her organs and sing structures into existence. Within her attempts, seemingly mundane objects – electric blankets, misting humidifier lamps, Crystal Light diet beverage powder – act as portals into the subconscious of her filmic alter ego Cynthia, where her quest for self- realization is explored through elaborate, hallucinatory sequences.

“An Asylum is a safe place to be when you are a bit shattered and don’t know who you are, where you are and can get things together”. With these words, famous psychoanalyst R. D. Laing defines his experimental community Kingsley Hall, founded in London in 1965 to serve as an asylum for people with mental illnesses. The film is the result of what a three-man camera crew shot during six weeks in this house, while living with them. See excerpt here.

Rick Dolphijn is assistant professor and researcher at Utrecht University. He has published the books Foodscapes, Towards a Deleuzian Ethics of Consumption (2004) and, together with Iris van der Tuin, New Materialism: Interviews and Cartographies (2012).

In Baden (Bathing), Cathalijne Smulders works with people who have difficulties with language, speech or gestures as a result of brain damage. Smulders illustrates the sense of disorientation that occurs when words lose their meaning. Speakers suffering from aphasia or spasms describe their surroundings. Their words and actions are distorted by hesitations and physical reflexes.
The influence of impeded speech on perception is reinforced by the presence of an improv choir and dancers reacting to the speakers. words make way for sounds, and the emphasis shifts to more physical, sensitive and fragile forms of exchange. When words lose their meaning, a new form of exchange originates.

Set in a dome like greenhouse building constructed in Oracle, Arizona, it intended to re-create a second biosphere and prove its sustainability by sealing, big brother style, scientist to live in it. Considered one of the worst ideas of the fin de siècle and only remembered by the parody film Bio-Dome (1996), it is, however, an important example of the mentality behind the material culture of our Anthropocene era. Müge Yilmaz is a visual artist based in the Netherlands. After completing photography studies in Italy, she was an artist in residence at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten.

As part of Cure Park, Abner Preis leads a group of 30 people on a night time tour through the Amsterdamse Bos. Partly by foot, partly by canoe, the tour arrives at a location in the forest where the video is installed. Within the festival heart of Over het IJ festival Abner Preis will perform the story of The Mask Maker and the Tree accompanied by live music. At Sexyland, Abner Preis performs later that night by taking a walk over the NDSM terrain, concluded by a filmscreening with live music and a dj.

This evening is dedicated to the screening of three short films that explore the limits of communication between humans and non-humans including technology, animals and matter. Through sound and music they explore the desire to connect with that which escapes language. They open the possibility to imagine a time travel with Simon and Garfunkel; an inner space to play and find peace; or the means of understanding a dog’s bark.

Ieder kind heeft wel kapot speelgoed. Hier gaan we mee aan de slag, samen met kunstenaar Mark Bain. We halen onderdelen uit elkaar, bekijken de constructie, mixen van alles door elkaar en maken een nieuwe creatie: een monster, een fantasiedier, een voertuig of iets zonder naam. Neem al je kapotte, houten, metalen en plastic speelgoed mee. Knuffels en poppen zijn ook welkom, als je maar niet bang bent dat ze veranderen in Dokter Frankenstein.

The Sky-Earth Observatory by Mark Bain transforms sounds from the forrest into vibrations. Mark Bain made a compilation of these sounds into a Soundscape that can be experienced on Sunday July 16 from 6 pm in Care Center.

In Shadow World, Rosa Verhoeve (photographer) and Sandra van Elewout (artist) take their guests on a quest for the potential of the twilight area within ourselves, the point where light, dark and imagination get together.
